Roehampton University
i am currently studying in my second year at Roehampton University and i never thought i would enjoy this course as much as i do. i've learnt so much within my short time here, how many different studies are contained within the dance world. my eyes have been opened to all these new possibilities, and places i can go after i finish my course. yet theres one thing i can't let go.
January last year i was given an unconditional place at Laban, while currently studying at Roehampton. Laban had been my dream for around 3/4 years, every time i walked into the building i knew it was the place for me. i started in their youth company, i got to tour with them at the age of 17 and it blew my mind, even writing this now puts me into shock about it all.
so going back further in time i auditioned when i was 18 for their undergrad course, and i did not get in. i had many teachers who worked there question as to why i did not and i felt everything for me come to a downfall. i carried on auditioning for more vocational courses, and university courses, i then got offered Roehampton, i took the course and i am so happy i choose to, like i previously said it changed my whole perspective on dance and gave me so much understanding!
so as you can guess it was difficult, i was offered my dream at Laban after building foundations at Roehampton. i had to make the decision fast, and yes sometimes i still regret not going, my friends will mention and ask as to why i didn't go, yet they all knew. i'm a little bit of a sentimental person, i couldn't risk loosing my friends, yet they would have still been there for me, i couldn't just leave, that was my home, my friends, my boyfriend, everything i had was at Roehampton so those were the reasons. and i still wake up some days hitting myself for it
i love my course, don't get me wrong but what if i went to Laban, where would i be now? i'll never know maybe i could've been really unhappy but the training there could have made me a stronger dancer? i have so many new questions arise about this subject every so often and it isn't the greatest thing to think of. I say all this now because my relationship with the person i wanted to stay at Roehampton for has ended, so i let my heart rule my head, i could blame it on them but what is the point
I AM HAPPY, this post sounds as if my life has no direction, but Roehampton has helped me grow as a dancer and person, i'll always have this regret but i can not mean i won't be the person i plan to be, i'll work harder and have more passion then ever. The past happened, the future will be bright.
